Our Story

The founding story

If you have ever walked through Savannah’s historic district — beneath the live oaks of Forsyth Park, along the cobblestones of River Street, through any of the city’s legendary squares — you know that this is a place of extraordinary beauty. Savannah is not just a city; it is a feeling, an atmosphere, a story that unfolds in Spanish moss and morning light and the quiet geometry of its streets.

And yet, for decades, the merchandise available to visitors and residents alike has rarely reflected that beauty. Walk into most tourist shops on River Street and you will find the same generic souvenirs you could buy in any coastal city: mass-produced t-shirts with clip-art graphics, cheaply made trinkets, designs that could belong to anywhere — or nowhere. Savannah is one of the most architecturally significant, culturally rich, and visually stunning cities in America. Its merchandise should reflect that.

Oglethorpe Goods was born from a simple conviction: Savannah deserves merchandise as thoughtful as the city itself. We create original designs that draw from the real history, natural beauty, and distinctive character of this remarkable place — then print them on premium materials that people actually want to wear and keep. No generic graphics. No throwaway quality. Just honest goods made with genuine respect for the city that inspires them.

The name

James Edward Oglethorpe arrived on the bluffs above the Savannah River on February 12, 1733, with a charter from King George II and a vision unlike anything the colonial world had seen. Where other colonial founders imposed rigid hierarchies, Oglethorpe designed a city built around public space and civic equality. His plan centered on a repeating pattern of wards, each organized around an open square — a place for gathering, commerce, and community.

That plan produced twenty-two squares, and it remains one of the most celebrated examples of urban design in the Western world. The squares still stand today, shaded by the live oaks that have grown to monumental proportions over nearly three centuries. They are the heart of Savannah — the reason the city feels the way it does, the reason people fall in love with it.

We named our brand for the man whose vision made all of it possible. Oglethorpe Goods is our way of honoring his legacy and the extraordinary city he set in motion.

The designs

Every Oglethorpe Goods product features one of our three original designs, each inspired by a defining element of Savannah’s identity. The Oakcaptures the majesty of the Southern live oak, the city’s most iconic natural symbol. The Coordinatesmarks Savannah’s exact location on earth — a modern, minimalist way to claim where you belong. The Gridreimagines Oglethorpe’s revolutionary city plan as a work of geometric art.

Each design tells a different part of Savannah’s story. Explore them all.

How we make it

We believe in quality over quantity. Our apparel is printed on Comfort Colors blanks — garment-dyed, heavyweight cotton that feels broken-in from the very first wear. The kind of shirts that get softer and more personal over time, that you reach for again and again. Our prints are produced on archival paper with museum-quality inks. Our accessories are made from durable materials built to last.

Every piece is made to order through our print-on-demand production partners. This means no excess inventory sitting in a warehouse, no overproduction, no waste. When you order from Oglethorpe Goods, your piece is printed specifically for you. It takes a few extra days, but it means that every item is fresh, intentional, and made with purpose.
